A recent bloomer in the writing world, Melissa Jane has delved into a complex world where light and dark clash in unforgivable ways. Romanticism takes on darker influences while malevolence attempts to interfere with courage. Jane knows no boundaries when it comes to discovering the endless personalities that exist within our world. No one is exempt from love, not even those condemned to a life of pain and betrayal where revenge is the only safe passage to true freedom.

1. How and when did you get started as a writer?
I had an outline of a character playing around in my head for a while. Every day something new added to his characteristics until finally he was fully formed. From there the rest of the story was created and soon after that I had finished my first story.
2. How do you usually find your ideas?
It could be something as little as the shape of a nose or the way a person smiles. My imagination is quite vivid and I rely on little stimulus to generate ideas.
3. Where do you write from? (home, office etc.)
I write from my office. It is a beautiful location and I do have ocean views. In saying that, it can very distracting when I am trying to write. Sometimes I just want to shut myself away in a dark hotel room and smash out my story.
4. How long does it take you to write a book?
Depending on my level of distraction, three to six months.
5. What is your work schedule like when you're writing?
Hectic. My poor husband :)
6. Do you have any suggestions to help become a better writer? If so, what are they?
It's ok to be overly critical of your work. Treat each word like your story depends on it. Don't fluff out your scenes, only stick to the essentials.
7. Something personal about you people may be surprised to know?
I entered a competition once where only one random chapter of my book Little Doll was to be judged. One reviewer commented that I must have something wrong with me as to why I write such stories. Fortunately I didn't take her comment to heart, as she hadn't read the full story, but it was a learning curve as to how people view certain genres.
8. What is your greatest weakness?
Chocolate, wine, distractions, cute animals.
9. What is your greatest strength?
My imagination and drive.
10. As a child, what did you want to do when you grew up?
I wanted to be a Criminologist because I had watched Hannibal Lector and found the notion of criminal behaviour interesting.
